Doug Gertner
Little did we know when we met Doug back in 2005 that his passion for fathers and fatherhood would turn into a “long and adventurous trip.” He’s a grateful dad and “The Grateful Dad,” an internet radio host, author, consultant, and “dadvocate” who delivers keynotes speeches, facilitates workshops and offers resources for fathers, and everyone who has one, knows one, or loves one. Doug’s company, Emu Consulting, founded in 2000, was even named for the large flightless Australian bird that is one of the best fathers in the animal world.
Doug earned his doctorate from the College of Education, Division of Professional Psychology, at University of Northern Colorado, his master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and his bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College. He’s taught at ten colleges and universities in Colorado and Wyoming, lectured, published, and consulted widely in the area of gender studies. Doug and spouse are parents of a teenage son, and they’ve shared in his care since he was born.
A member of one of ThirdPath’s ILA learning groups, Doug is also a contributor to ThirdPath’s annual Father’s Day call, and an important resource for making connections as we build ThirdPath across the country. Doug especially enjoys the opportunity to get to know the other ILAs who are active in the ThirdPath community.
