Redesigning WorkSarah had the reputation of being a problem employee. But when I sat down and talked with her, I found out her mother was dying of cancer. Together we worked out a new schedule and a way to automate her work so she could spend the next year working from home.

Re-Thinking How We Do Work

The ThirdPath Institute is dedicated to helping people find solutions to the places where work and life conflict. We work with people to recognize that they no longer have to pick one over the other - work or life - but instead can have both a meaningful connection to work and a meaningful life outside of work.

In this section we try to give you a picture of how different things can look when you redesign your work. This section includes questions and examples to help you think about doing your job differently, an overview of the major facts around work redesign, and a discussion on the meaning of choosing time over money. We hope you learn from and enjoy this section, and look forward to hearing back from you about your successes and stumbling blocks!

This section is designed to give you an idea of how one employee succeeded in using the various aspects of work redesign to make his job work well for him and for his family's needs. Our goal is to give you a sense that work redesign is a simple and clear process, and completely within your reach!

To learn more about what our vision of public policy might look like that would allow individuals and families from all different backgrounds to find more time for lives outside of work, check out our Public Policy section.
